Judah Kelly released his debut album on Friday 28th July and announced a run of live shows through September. His debut single ‘Count On Me’ reached #1 on the iTunes chart and #3 on the Spotify Australian Viral chart, and was of course the original song that won Judah the title in the nail-biting series climax of The Voice. Over a gripping ten weeks this year, Australia watched as Judah’s extraordinary gift came to fruition. The born country-soul singer’s blind audition of Tennessee Whiskey left everyone in breathless admiration.
For the album, Count On Me, the song selection reflects Judah’s wealth of experience as a performing and recording musician. For five years, he has worked as a live bass player, guitarist and studio session player. Including that life-changing version of Tennessee Whiskey, the rest of the album showcases a unique and passionate slant on the country genre, as well as Judah’s resolution to make his own mark as an artist – four songs on the album are not covers. This is a first for a ‘winner’s album’.
As for the future, Judah says, “the main thing for me is to keep it real and to keep making music that makes people feel something, I want to make something with meaning. That’s what the goal is. If it gets bigger than that, that’s a pretty cool bonus.”
